What's the difference between a toy maltese dog and a toy maltese puppy?

I want to get a toy maltese dog but I just want to know if they stay that small size when they grow into adults. Can someone please tell me, and give me info on this breed, because I don't want them to get big. Thanks.|||Chantel,

There is no such thing as a "Toy" Maltese dog or puppy. A Maltese is already a Toy dog breed recognized in the Toy group. Even though you are in Canada, please understand that no dog should be bred under the breed standard. Don't support backyard/irresponsible breeding. A Maltese is a very small breed, if you can't find a small dog, consider getting a cat or any other pet.

@Holly - Oh sorry about that sentence, I forgot to erase that while I was typing and I realized that sentence didn't make sense and eventually, I forgot to erase it. Sorry!|||You must actually see the mother and the father. From their size you can guesstimate the size your puppy will grow to be. Puppies like humans are small when born then grow in size to be somewhere like their parents. I got a yorkie male and a female from 2 different cities. I saw the parents of each one which were approximately an average of 7 lbs (all 4 of them). The male grew to be about 8 lbs and the female is 12 lbs, neither being overweight. According to the vet, they are just standard size. So to answer your question, it depends.|||A puppy is a young dog, and a puppy is smaller than a full-size dog. They are small as full size dogs, but larger than puppies. However, a maltese is really not a toy size, they are small dogs but not tiny. All Maltese are very difficult to hosuebreak.|||A agree with the above answers, but would like to know what Moonfruit means by "Even though you're in Canada".....? Is Canada below your standards? Do Canadians have more BYB's, puppymills and mutt dogs than any other country??????????|||there's no such thing as a "toy" maltese.

Maltese are just Maltese.. ONE size only.

Puppies GROW.. ALL puppies grow! Maltese are tiny as puppy, but they grow to be small dogs.|||toy breeds stay small

read standard for each breed

puppy is under 12 months, dog is over 12 months

google the breed or read a book on breed|||Toys dont grow, only real dogs grow
