What is the difference between a Toy Schnauzer and a Miniature Schnauzer?

What is the difference between a Toy Schnauzer and a Miniature Schnauzer? I'm assuming they are the same. I never heard the term, "Toy Schnauzer", until recently.|||There are only three sizes of the Schnauzer, Miniature, Standard and Giant, there is no toy Schnauzer.|||you guys are to funny. im going along with WHITE WOLF. i have two "HEALTHY" mini schnauzers that are considered toys because of their size. they were not RUNTS. like WHITEWOLF said there is only one runt in a litter and in both litters they were all toys. Do some research people!

|||A Miniature Schnauzer is 12"-14" at the shoulder. The toy Schnauzer isn't recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club, although some breeders try to produce Miniature Schnauzers that are under 10 inches, and they call them "Toy Schnauzers". Standard (17"-20") and Giant (23"-28") Schnauzers are also recognized by the AKC.|||Occasionally schnauzers are born smaller than normal, due to toy breeds added to the line to make the miniature variety. Many people are quick to say these puppies are runts and sickly, but as long as they are bred responsibly, there are not. If four unusually small puppies are born in a litter, are they all runts? I have seen some before that some crappy breeder tried to pass off as toys, but I've also seen responsible breeders breeding smaller than normal schnauzers that were just as healthy as any other normal schnauzer. People, do your research before you start ranting about small breeds. Just because a breed or variety isn't recognized by the AKC or CKC, it doesn't mean that it's not a breed. Now, back to the question: Toy Schnauzers tend to be a bit smaller than the mini, but if responsibly bred, then not by much. As for "toy chis" and "toy yorkies", there is only one size, and anything smaller is irresponsibly bred. Here's a site explaining about the "toys": http://www.itwschnauzers.com/about_the_t鈥?/a>

Edit: the thumbs down just proves my point on peoples' ignorance and idiocy.|||Hrm ... I didn't see this mentioned but if anyone is selling "Toy Schnauzers" it's because they are not a reputable breeder. No reputable breeder will breed for a size smaller than the standard on purpose.

Now that doesn't mean that there won't be an occasional puppy that is smaller then the standard, but again, that wouldn't be something anyone is breeding for on purpose. And ... if they were, my bet would bet that there are health problems go to along with the smaller size.|||i have a miniature schnauzer

i think they are the same thing because there are big once Standard then small that would be the miniature

i think it is just a name

i never heard of "toy" for a schnauzer just because of how big they are and what there group is|||Toy Schnauzer aren't AKC reconsided variety

the only Schanuzer reconsided varieties are Giant Schanuzer, Minature Schnauzer and Standard Schnauzer.

Toy Schanuzer are smaller then Minature Schnauzer and toy Schnauzer are BRED by irresponsible breeders for PROFIT, they are going against breed standard of the Schnauzer!

There are no Schnauzers in the Toy group.|||Toy Schnauzer isn't a real breed, its like a toy yorkie. Its just a term to describe poorly bred dogs that are too small to meet breed standard. They're just runty Mini Schnauzers.|||Well, Toy schnauzers arent real and are just unhealthy runts, whilst Miniature Schnauzers are an actual breed.|||Toy schnauzers don't exist.|||there's no such thing as a "toy" Schnauzer

they come in Mini, Standard, and Giant.. no toys.|||One is healthy, the other is a sick runt.|||Toys are smaller than mini's, and teacup breeds (like poodles) are even smaller than toys|||Toy Schnauzer are what breeds call the runts of the Miniature Schnauzer breed.
