Is a toy or bone good for dogs if they are home alone?

I leave my dog at home in the kennel while I'm at work. I feel bad because I don't give him toys or raw hide bones to play with. He sometimes chokes on rawhides when they get too long and soggy, and he chews the toys and don't want him to choke on that also. What would you suggest a good bone or toy to leave with him?|||The absolute best toy (and safest) to leave with a dog, is a Kong type. Those funny looking toys that look like red stacked circles with a hole at one end. Put peanut butter in the Kong and your dog will have fun for a very long time attempting to maneuver the toy and get the peanut butter out. If your dog hates peanut butter (never known one to not, but who knows), then you can fill it with maybe some wet kind of dog food.

A further suggestion..call your local humane society and ask their opinion. They may have lots of great ideas. Call up the company as well, that makes Kong toys and find out what kinds of "fillings" are safe for dogs when left alone. Here is the link for the Kong company.. http://www.kongcompany.com/

I applaud you for taking the time to ask and you are right about not giving bones (real ones are not at all good for animals), or rawhides.

Best of luck.|||My dog likes stuffed monkeys to chew on and play with|||I would go to someplace like Petco and ask for some help. We don't know how big the dog is, how seriously he is chewing etc. Take him with you, there are plenty of toys out there that he can chew on, and never actually destroy or break off small pieces.

I am with you, I don't trust dogs with rawhide either. Even my Pekingese could swallow enough to get sick with those.|||Yes it is good to give him something to keep him happy until you get back but never give him rawhides, rubber toys,or hard plastic ones.I am not sure of the breed but the best type toy to leave him with is a knotty rope(that is the peice of rope with the knots on each end.)They come in many sizes from really small to really big and they are not easy to choke on nore can they wrap it around themselves to get hurt...Good luck with this!|||i was concerned bout that to so i bought a toy that was too big for her mouth but that she could still play with. and i only gave it to her while i was away and now that is the toy she perfers so i suggest something that would last your dog awile too.|||yes it is good. it keeps them busy so they dont chew on your furniture|||The kong is great. It is made of very strong rubber and you can fill it with purpose made filling. It keeps a dog busy for hours. You can buy different sizes for different sizes of dog.|||Get a rubber chewey toy, my dog does the same thing! DONT GET HIM RAWHIDES! At least not while your gone! If you wan to try and keep him busy go to a local pet store and ask them about busy bones!|||I only give my dog toys and chewies when she can be supervised. You never know what will happen, dogs can easily choke on something. Put your doggie in the kennel only after some good exercise and all they will want to do is sleep.|||try the kong its a tough rubber that you can stuff treats in the middle she will work on it for a while trying to get the treats out! Theres different type of kongs try it out.you can get them at petsmart
