How much should I be charged as a stud fee for a toy pomeranian? He is pure black, but he's unregistered. He's obviously purebred. How much is too much, and how much is too little, since that could tell you that it might not actually be purebred?
This is just a question. Please spare me the anti-breeding rants.|||He's not worth ANY stud fee! If the stud is not registered, then the pups can not be registered and that makes them worth considerably less money...in fact it makes them worth no more than if the stud were a "sneaky neighbor dog" and the pups were mutts. Also, if he is not registered and has no papers (and no health screenings) you have no way of knowing if he is carrying some horrific genetic disease. Chances are pretty good he isn't, but you can't be sure of that and if he is and one or more of the puppies inherit that disease then they are worse than worthless...no one in their right mind is going to buy a sickly puppy that will require lots of expensive vet bills. If I am going to pay a breeder good money for a puppy then I fully expect to get a dog I can register and a dog that has some sort of health guarantee. Without registration papers for BOTH parents you can't even guarantee me that the puppies are purebred let alone that they will be healthy.
If you are insistent on breeding your dog, find another stud. One with papers at the very least. Preferably one with titles and health clearances as well. Stud fees are based not only on what one could sell a puppy for but also on the quality of the bloodline. A stud with titles and health clearances will be worth more than one that just has registration papers. A stud with no registration papers at all isn't worth your time.|||Purebred is meaningless if they're unregistered. You're rolling the dice on his genetics, and any breed that is popular as a pure breed, especially small dogs, are commonly plagued with inbred defective traits. I suggest shelling out a few extra bucks and getting a registered, evaluated stud to breed with, to avoid any undue congenital defects in the puppies.|||i wouldn't pay anything if the dog is not registered.it will make it hard to sell the pups with no papers.if i wasn't me i wouldn't pay over $150.|||Well considering the fact that there is no such thing as a "toy" pomeranian, you shouldn't pay for it at all. There is only one size category for Pomeranians, they do not have different levels like Poodles.
That being said, the stud fee is usually the price of a puppy. Puppies with no papers sell for $50-$100, if you're lucky. And Pomeranians, being small dogs, have small litters. Probably only 2-4 pups.
Is it worth it?|||It cannot be ethically answered without the need to clear up the ethical questions of to breed or not to breed.
If you have reason to breed and intent do not charge. It is not pure bred if it is not registered and carring a pedigree. How do you know it and its ancestors do not harbor genetics harmful to the lives and well being of the pups?
The best way to decide without insight or ethics, is the base rate for the birth and raising of 1 puppy. A stud fee should be equil to the price to raise 1 puppie to sale age. Of course then you must offer guarentees....|||$0.
There is no such thing as a "TOY" Pomeranian. Unregistered dogs shouldn't be bred from. Nor should dogs who haven't gained an AKC Championship title or haven't been tested for hereditary health problems.|||If the dog is NOT papered, there should be NO stud fee!
A dog's owner can charge a fee if:
The dog is purebred and has papers to prove it.
It has the necessary health clearances (hips, elbows x-rayed, also tests for any breed-specific problems.)
It has been shown, and has ribbons, and hopefully a championship to show that it is indeed a superior dog, worthy of being used for breeding.
If the dog has none of these, you are a backyard breeder, and you and this dog's owner are responsible for the animal shelters being full of unwanted pets!|||I bought a yorkie about 6 months ago but he was registered i bought him for $500 if he is an unregistered pomeranian i would say about $250 to $350!|||Anything you would charge as a stud fee would be too high for a couple reasons. First and most important reason being he is unregistered, no matter how much he obviously looks like a purebred there is no way you can prove he is. Secondly you are not showing him, you cannot show him, he cannot get a championship title, you cannot prove he has champion bloodlines or any bloodlines for that matter. More than likely he has not be certified for whatever health and genetic tests this breed requires. He should just be neutered anyways it will greatly reduce his risks of getting testicular cancer and he wont have all those annoying male habits like straying, fighting and marking.|||find out what pom puppies are going for in your area and charge the price of one puppy.....that is the typical stud fee for a dog...that or pick of the litter
